Swift & Staley provides comprehensive maintenance services for Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area operated by the U.S. Forest Service. Spanning the Kentucky-Tennessee state line, LBL comprises 179,000 acres located between Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley, two of the largest man-made lakes in the United States. LBL includes 4 major campgrounds totaling 985 developed campsites, a dormitory and cafeteria, 2 administration buildings, 26 restroom & shower facilities and 118 other buildings. There are 420 miles of paved and unpaved roads, 200 miles of hiking and biking trails and 100 miles of horse trails.
Drawing in excess of 2 million visitors a year, LBL is the most visited public attraction in Kentucky, and the second most visited in Tennessee.
In addition to camping, hiking, hunting, fishing and other nature opportunities, public attractions including a living history farm, a nature center, elk and bison prairie, public horse stable, off-highway vehicle use area, rifle range, and several gift shops.
Swift & Staley supports the Forest Service by providing maintenance services for facilities, roads and trails, grounds maintenance and custodial services, and environmental operations for drinking and wastewater operations. Maintenance tasks are directed by individual job orders that typically total 700-800 in number in a given year. Swift & Staley's successful execution of the work clearly demonstrates an ability to operate in a complex work environment and meets government specifications in a large geographic area. This success stems from Swift & Staley's management philosophy, customer oriented service delivery and proven work-control systems.
